A Ghanaian man living in Germany has advised a fellow Ghanaian to think carefully before returning home if he has already built a comfortable life abroad.
In a video circulating on social media, the elderly man, who was speaking to another Ghanaian in Berlin, said the financial expectations that often come with returning to Ghana could become overwhelming.
He encouraged the younger man to remain in Germany rather than return without substantial financial resources, arguing that life back home can come with significant social and financial pressure.
“For you to go home, then stay here and die. There is so much pressure back home,” he said.
The man explained that his own family circumstances had influenced his decision to remain in Germany.
He said he has a daughter who works as a nurse, as well as twins and another child who are also working, yet he still feels the need to remain abroad because of the financial pressures he associates with life in Ghana.
“I have a daughter who is a nurse and twins who are working with another child, and due to the pressure, I have come here,” he said.
According to him, returning to Ghana without significant financial resources could expose someone to expectations that may be difficult to meet.
He therefore urged his fellow Ghanaian to stay in Germany if he had already established a comfortable life there.
“So, for me to go back home to Ghana, I will stay here and die. If you don’t have billions of money, don’t go there because the pressure will kill you, so stay here,” he said.
His comments have sparked discussion about the experiences of Ghanaians living abroad, particularly the financial expectations they may face when they return home after spending years overseas.
The elderly man’s advice was based on his personal experience and perception of the pressures associated with life in Ghana, rather than a general assessment of the experiences of all Ghanaians in the diaspora.
