A Ghanaian nurse based in the United States has been shot dead during a robbery in Oakland, California, leaving his family, friends, and community in mourning.
According to a Fox KTVU report, 33-year-old Lartey Solomon, a registered nurse at Kindred Hospital in San Leandro, was killed in the early hours of May 31.
Solomon and a friend had reportedly just left a nightclub around 2:45 a.m. when an armed man confronted him in a parking lot and demanded his necklace. Although he handed over the jewellery, the suspect allegedly shot him, killing him instantly.
Popularly known online as “Nurse Solomon,” he used platforms such as YouTube and TikTok to share free medical advice and health information with the public.
Solomon moved from Ghana to the United States in pursuit of better opportunities and had aspirations of becoming a doctor. He is survived by his 11-year-old daughter, who lives in Ghana.
Authorities have arrested 39-year-old Shacory Carnell Daniels of Vallejo in connection with the killing. Daniels, who reportedly has a prior criminal record, has been charged with felony murder and other offences.
He is currently being held without bail and is expected to appear in court for a plea hearing on June 30.
