Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC and the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been remanded into police custody by an Accra High Court after failing to comply with a bail condition requiring him to surrender his passport.
According to reports, the court revoked his bail after determining that he had not deposited his passport as directed. Abronye was absent when the ruling was delivered.
The NPP stalwart is currently standing trial on charges of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.
The charges are linked to alleged statements he made concerning a Circuit Court judge, which prosecutors contend were false and capable of disturbing public peace.
Abronye DC had earlier been granted bail after spending time in remand custody. One of the conditions attached to his bail was the surrender of his passport to the court. His failure to meet that requirement prompted the court to revoke the bail arrangement.
Meanwhile, proceedings in the substantive criminal case are expected to continue before the Circuit Court as the matter remains under adjudication.
