Colonel Dominic Buah, Secretary of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), has issued a stern warning to illegal miners (galamseyers) against engaging in armed confrontation with the anti-galamsey task force.
Speaking at an editors’ forum on March 25, 2026, Col. Buah stated that NAIMOS will not tolerate any form of armed resistance or attacks on its personnel. He emphasized that task force members are better trained and equipped in weapons handling than illegal miners.
The Secretariat warned that any armed resistance would be met with “ruthless” and “decisive” action, asserting their legal right to self-defense.
According to him, despite encountering increased resistance in mining communities, NAIMOS remains resolute in its mission to protect Ghana’s environment with forest reserves and river bodies being declared security zones.
Colonel Buah revealed that operations have already led to the arrest of several armed individuals, including foreign nationals, and the seizure of weapons and ammunition with seized excavators and weapons being safely preserved and documented for legal disposal according to established regulations.
The warning follows recent incidents of violence, including an operation where a soldier was shot in the thigh.
