A six-year-old boy, Godfred Aboagye, has died after drowning in a water storage tank in Walantu, a suburb of Kasoa.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the child fell into a water-filled tank at a compound house. Despite prompt rescue efforts, Godfred was retrieved dead.
According to the Central Regional Fire Service, a distress call was received on Monday, December 29, at 5:03 p.m. A rescue team was dispatched immediately, arriving at the scene by 5:13 p.m. Rescue operations concluded at 5:28 p.m., after which the child’s body was handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.
Preliminary reports indicate that Godfred had been playing with a ball, which fell into the uncovered tank. In attempting to retrieve it, he climbed into the tank and tragically drowned.
The Fire Service has strongly urged parents and property owners to ensure that all water storage facilities—including tanks, wells, and pits—are properly covered, especially in homes with children, to prevent similar accidents.
