The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to Senior High School students about the harmful consequences of misusing social media.
Rising concerns over inappropriate online behavior among students have prompted the GES to intervene. The Service noted that such behavior not only affects academic performance but could also damage students’ reputations and limit future opportunities.
Speaking at a student forum held in the Central Region on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Regional Director of Education, Dr. Juliet Duffie Otameh, urged students to think carefully about the content they post online.
“Before you post anything about yourself, ask whether you will be proud of it tomorrow,” she advised.
Dr. Otameh pointed to recent videos circulating online featuring students in compromising situations and questioned whether those involved would still stand by those actions in a few years.
“Will you be proud of those posts in the next three years?” she asked. “Would your parents and teachers smile if they saw them?”
She acknowledged that social media can be a valuable platform for learning and personal development when used responsibly. However, she stressed that misuse could seriously harm students’ public image and future prospects.
Dr. Otameh encouraged students to reflect on their online behavior and ensure it aligns with the values they wish to uphold.
