Kasotie, Ashanti Region – Six illegal miners have been confirmed dead and four others rescued following the collapse of a mining pit at an illegal mining site in Kasotie, located in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The tragic incident occurred Wednesday night, trapping several miners underground. Emergency response teams from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), supported by local volunteers and other rescue personnel, have been working tirelessly to locate any remaining survivors.

Rescue workers recovered the bodies of six miners after hours of digging through debris. Four other miners were rescued alive and immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention. The deceased have been sent to the morgue.

However, the rescue operation has been slowed by underground water seepage, which continues to hinder progress.

Samuel Ayine, Assembly Member for the Kasotie Electoral Area, confirmed the incident and said efforts are ongoing to determine the full extent of the tragedy, as more individuals may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
