2026 World Cup: Julius Debrah Inaugurates 11-Member Oversight Committee

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to supervise Ghana’s preparations and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 26, at Jubilee House.

In his remarks, Mr. Debrah urged committee members to carry out their mandate with integrity and total commitment, emphasizing the need for effective coordination ahead of the tournament. He also encouraged them to explore broader opportunities beyond football that the World Cup presents for the nation.

Ghana qualified for the tournament with a 1–0 victory over Comoros on October 12 in Accra, marking the Black Stars’ fifth World Cup appearance since 2006.

Mr. Debrah reiterated the importance of diligence and integrity from all members as they carry out their responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the government has allocated GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ preparations for the tournament. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on November 13 during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.

According to Dr. Forson, the allocation reflects the government’s commitment to sports development and national representation on the global stage. The funds will cover the team’s preparations, logistics, and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
